Reports surfaced within the week that Nigerian rapper, Dandizzy rejected an offer from the Rivers State Government to perform at Burna Boy’s home coming amidst celebration of the superstars Grammy Award win.
According to said reports, Port Harcourt-based Dandizzy was offered a sum reported to be precisely #300,000 to perform at the event which he promptly turned down.
This decision attracted quite a worrisomel level of criticism from Nigerians on social media who believes “pride” came to play as the rapper was expected to honour the call irrespective of his own valuation of what was offered.
In the screenshot above, one social media user posted:
“Pride is really a killer of Success, learn from Dandizzy. Dude just lost a Golden opportunity”
Another would go on to say:
“He was offered 300k to perform at Burna Boy’s home coming at Rivers State, he rejected. Meanwhile Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State gifted every musician who performed 10m”
When we look at the underlying facts in this drama, you begin to wonder if Dandizzy was actually “proud” to turn down the offer from the Government.
You don’t only look at it from the perspective of every one being given #10 million by the Governor after the event. The fact is he was being criminally undervalued, dandizzy is worth more than 300k and that is not even up for debate for music lovers who actually listen to the rapper.
In all of their recent break out and fame, Dan Dizzy has been around much longer and actually has performed as well, if not better, than the likes of Omah Lay and Rema, this is definitely debatable but that is talk for another day.
It would be inconceivable to call Omah Lay or Rema to perform at a show of that stature for 300k which in all honesty, is a paltry sum. If the aforementioned two really can’t be offered that, it is only undervaluation that’d make that a suitable offer in the eyes of the Government and fans for Dandizzy.
One reason for this criminal undervaluation is given the fact the Port Harcourt native is a rapper which generally his kind of music, rap is not as valued in this part of the world as in others.
When you put to consideration that the said rapper was paid 3m by Instagram Celebrity and Hennessy Ambassador, Obi Cubana for just an instagram freestyle , it becomes even more demeaning to expect the rapper to honour an invitation to perform at a show in which aside himself, the least paid artiste was offered #1.5m, artistes whom he could stake a claim at being better than.
I, for one, would do what he did, turn down the offer. Know ur worth.
You begin to wonder if Governor Nyesom Wike had the intent of giving out #10milliom to every perform artistes at the show from start, or if it was just a late thought out plan to leave the rapper in regrets.
At the end, people may very well see it as pride or count it a loss on his side but one thing is certain in life, never settle for something you’re worth more than. Dandizzy felt he was worth more than the paltry $800 offered him, and rightly rejected the offer.
He was rather bold than proud.
