The summer transfer window is likely to be a busy one from an Arsenal perspective as Mikel Arteta looks to try and continue adding fresh faces to his squad.
Arsenal reclaimed the North London bragging rights on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
After Spurs took the lead via a sublime goal from substitute Erik Lamela, Arsenal hit back just before half time through Martin Odegaard’s first Premier League goal.
The Gunners then completed the turnaround four minutes past the hour mark when Alexandre Lacazette was brought down inside the penalty area by Davinson Sanchez. Despite the Colombian pleading his innocence, the penalty was awarded and Lacazette passed the test of dispatching the ball from 12 yards.
That was enough to seal all three points for Mikel Arteta’s side, bolstering their prospects of securing European football for next season without the added stress of having to win this season’s UEFA Europa League.
Although the Gunners are now back in the hunt for a Europa League spot, the club will want to kick-on next season in the Premier League and mount a challenge for the top-four.
If they are to do that, they will have to strengthen the squad in a number of areas, as they have discovered plenty of weak points as this season has unfolded, especially at centre-back, at left-back when Kieran Tierney is not present and in central-midfield. The Gunners were desperate to land a left-back during the latter stages of the January transfer window but their efforts were to no avail, meaning transfer guru Edu and manager Arteta will have to try and bolster that area of the team come the summer.
As well as looking to strengthen their left-back options, Arsenal look to set to be keen on adding a central-defender and central-midfielder to their ranks.
According to a report by the Express, Arsenal are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka, so much so that they have already held talks with his representatives.
The France Under-21 international, who joined the German outfit from French club Auxerre in 2018 for just under £5million, has been developing at a rapid rate of knots in the Bundesliga and is now considered as a very exciting talent for the future.
This season, N’Dicka has been a regular fixture in the Frankfurt defence, racking up 17 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals.
But it’s not just N’Dicka that is on the Gunners’ radar ahead of the summer window opening for business in just a few months time, as Brighton & Hove Albion midfield ace Yves Bissouma continues to attract interest.
Bissouma has been in fine form for the Seagulls this season, quickly becoming one of the most admired defensive-midfielders in the Premier League with his physical frame and desire to keep things tidy in midfield.
The Express reports that Arsenal have been asked to be ‘kept informed’ of his situation ahead of the window opening.
Back in January, football.london reported that Bissouma is a player the Gunners are keen on and that he would be open to the idea of joining Arsenal if the opportunity arose.
Bissouma, who joined the Seagulls from Lille in July 2018, has continued to go from strength-to-strength under Graham Potter. This season he has racked up 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
Although his goal-scoring output is not a figure to write home about, Bissouma’s all-round game is nothing short of excellent. He would add a sense of steel and grit to the Gunners’ midfield, meaning he would complement Thomas Partey’s qualities excellently.
Should Arteta be lucky enough to sign Bissouma, he could soon be assembling a dream midfield combination in north London.
